great ides and Sherlock Holmes

I'm really enjoying myself here because of some great ideas some television people have! Here in Thailand I am watching the TV series "Sherlock" (if you don't know it it's about Sherlock Holmes solving cases today). It's a nice idea, fun to watch. But what makes it really really great is an idea somebody had: to put the website Sherlock is having in the series and the blog Watson is writing also in the series up in the internet for real!
Great idea guys, just so funny reading the blog entry to what you've just seen und especially the comments from the characters xD

Happy Bithday Ranuka!

Yesterday we celebrated Ranukas birthday in Bangkok! It was a multicultural party really nice! We went to the Black sheep, a restaurant and bar near Nonsi residence which I can only recommend it's nice for a relaxed diner with live music and thai food. But the best part of yesterday was that there were peolple from so many different countries. Danish, thai, german, swiss, vietnamnese,... this is actually the best part of being here: getting to know so many different people from all over the world and connecting with them. I love to get to know how live works in other places and I see this as a chance that I'll only get once during my time as a student. You connect so much better when you have something in common like all of us are students. I am so glad I came here!
Greetings from Bangkok to all of the other students out there!

out filming

As I am attending a news filming cours it means we're out filming a lot. So yesterday we got the cameras and went to silom to practice a bit. I was looking forward to seeing how this works here in Thailand. In Germany I am used to having tot alk to someone to get the permission to film in the city. Here, as expected, you don't need anything and no one really cares. People would lokk at us and some would even take photos but that's probably only because we are foreigners with cameras. Others we're happy to be filmed they smiled, waved, made fun... it was really cool to get some action from the people. In Germany I always feel like people are angry and irritated when we are out filming but here they seem to be used to it. This is pretty cool and makes it a lot more fun.

Despite being here for one and a half month now, I'm still not used to the evil - smelling liquids on the floor or the smell that comes out of the canalization. But as the smell just appears because of the heat and everything you can't do a thing about it and have to deal with it...  And after an hour in the burning sun, in thze smell, carrying around the heavy equipment I was glad to go back... ^^

Skybar from Hangover 2

Yesterday night we went out to the skybar at the 63. floor of the Tower Club at Lebua that could be seen in the film Hangover 2! It is said to be the world's highest restaurant outside - it's definitly a place to enjoy the night with Bangkok's richest and most popular tourists, stars and inhabitants. The entrance is free but you have to dress rather chic.

It was just soooo amazing! The view is great, it's an ocean of light underneath you. And it feels really different to be higher than most of the other buildings which is a rare feeling in Bangkok.

Mangrove planting!

On last sunday we were mangrove planting! One of the great field trips organised by chula for us! We all got green shirts and went off to some place more than 2 hours away but still kind of in Bangkok, because Bangkok is huge. When we arrived we sat on platforms over a river made of wood and bamboo. They were just built around trees like the trees grew in the middle of the platforms.
We went with boats to platforms in the middle of the water, made out of bamboo. There we ate the best seafood ever and I normally don't like seafood but this was just so amazing! Shrimps, fish, sea grass, soup, rice, crabs, shells...... soooooo good!!!!
After that we were mangrove planting what includes running around in some really sticky mud, trying to find a place for the plant in your hand while not sinking in the mud and being stuck there forever... but it's kind of fun and feels really strange :D
So did the water we bathed in afterwards... we went out in the river and jumped off the boats just to see that there are 50 cm of water and then endless mud! It's something so new it's really funny like trying to stand and sinking in xD
Then we got back and washed ourselves for the next part, the floating market.
There we were going around a market located at a river. This is not the real floating market but one at the same place. It was really interessting to see and we ate some great sweets there ;)

When you come to Bangkok you should totally do this trip! The mangroves are needed to be planted because they were destroyed by fishermen but now without mangroves there are nbo fish either. So they are building up the ecosystem once again, now really caring for it. I think this is a great idea!
